What Is the Kolbe Index Assessment?

Unlike personality tests, the Kolbe assessment measures the instinct driving what people do and why they do it—how people solve problems, make decisions, and approach work when they’re left to their own devices. 

It doesn’t reveal your intelligence or personality. Instead, the Kolbe Index zeroes in on “conative” strengths, your natural mode of problem-solving.

For example:

  • Some people jump into action quickly, even without a full plan. Others need to gather all the facts before making a move.
  • Some thrive with structure and systems. Others do their best work while improvising in the chaos.
  • Some see the big picture. Others love drilling into the small details that make things work.

Why does this matter?

Until you know how your team is wired to take action, you’re flying blind. You’ll misinterpret behaviors, assign the wrong tasks, and create tension without realizing it.

Beyond the Assessment

While our workshops include taking the Kolbe assessment, the real value happens in the workshop.

Step 1: Complete the Kolbe Index Assessment

Each team member takes the Kolbe A Index to identify their instinctive strengths—how they naturally take action and solve problems.

Step 2: Individual 1:1 Debriefs

After the session, each participant receives a private debrief with a Certified Kolbe Index Consultant to explore how their results apply to their current role, communication style, and team interactions.

Step 3: Half- or Full-Day Workshop

We guide your team through a hands-on session to:

  • Break down each person’s instinctive strengths and how they show up in day-to-day work
  • Map out areas of tension, overlap, and missed opportunity
  • Facilitate structured conversations to build new team agreements around collaboration, delegation, and ownership
